New Delhi, Aug 27 (UNI) With an ambitious plan aiming at 100 per cent electrification for Railways by 2023, Indian Railways energy consumption is set to become more than 33 billion units in the next decade from its current annual requirement of 21 billion units.
In an attempt to make the Railways the first transport organisation to be energy self-sufficient, Union Railways Minister Piyush Goyal told a meeting with key stakeholders on Thursday, that solar power plants of 20 GW capacity would be installed by the same year on the Railways' vacant land and boundary walls constructed along the track to be maintained by developers which will possibly help in preventing trespassing on tracks.
This would help in making Indian Railways green as well as 'Atma-Nirbhar', he said.
