Rahul, Priyanka question Justice Muralidhar’s transfer

New Delhi, Feb 27 (UNI) Taking a dig at the Centre over the transfer of Delhi High Court Judge Justice S Muralidhar, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday stirred a fresh political controversy by remembering Justice BH Loya, who died in 2014.
"Remembering the brave Judge Loya, who wasn't transferred," Mr Gandhi tweeted in the morning.
The Congress leader’s response came hours after the Union government issued notification for the transfer of Justice Murlidhar, the third senior most judge in the Delhi High Court, to Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Mr Gandhi’s reference to Justice Loya, the judge, who was hearing the controversial case of Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter killing, in which Home Minister Amit Shah was an accused, was followed by the Congress party’s criticism over the transfer of Justice Muralidhar.
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi also criticised the government over the timing of transfer.
"The midnight transfer of Justice Muralidhar is not shocking given the current dispensation, but it is certainly sad and shameful. Millions of Indians have faith in a resilient and upright judiciary, the government's attempts to muzzle justice and break their faith are deplorable," Ms Priyanka tweeted.
On Wednesday, Justice Muralidhar had lashed out at Union and Delhi governments over violence in northeast Delhi, in which more than 30 people lost their lives.
"We cannot let another 1984-like event happen in this country," Justice Muralidhar had said and asked Delhi police to take action against hate speeches by BJP leaders like Kapil Mishra, Anurag Thakur, Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma and Abhay Verma.
The Supreme Court collegium on February 12 had recommended the transfer of Justice Muralidhar and the Union government issued notification on the transfer at 2300 hrs on Wednesday.
