New Delhi, Mar 28 (UNI President Pranab Mukherjee today presented the Dr. B C Roy National Awards for the years 2014, 2015 and 2016 and Hari Om Ashram Alembic Research Awards for the years 2008, 2009, 2010, 2014, 2015, 2016. A total of 15 doctors were given the B C Roy award for 2014 while 16 people were given the awards for the year 2015 and 18 for the year 2016, at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Dr D S Rana and Dr Arvind Kumar from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital .were among those awarded the B C Roy awards for the year 2014.. Dr D S Rana, Chairman (B.O.M) and Department of Nephrology , got this award in the category of recognising best talents in encouraging the development of specialities in different branches in medicine while Dr Arvind Kumar , Chairman , Department of Chest & Thoracic Surgery , Sir Ganga Ram Hospital , got this award in the ' Eminent Medical Person' category. On winning the award, Dr Rana said , " I am humbled by the by the prestigious award . I hail from a small village Dasmal and had to face hardships during my education . To attend school , I had to travel 12 kms one way and took 3 hours daily to reach school . I owe this award to my late parents who taught me to work hard with sincerity and live with honesty . This award is dedicated to my teacher's and Gurus who made me what I am today .And not the least to this great institution of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital where I have devoted 35 years of my career .My message to all upcoming medical professionals is that hard work , sincerity and dedication will always make you succeed" The Bidhan Chandra Roy Award was instituted in 1976 in the memory of renowned physician and freedom fighter Dr B C Roy by Medical Council of India . Dr S Rajasekaran was awarded the Hari Om Ashram Alembic research awards for 2008 while Dr P Sundaresan was given the awards for 2010.
