New Delhi, Sep 17 (UNI) Leaders of Opposition parties, including the Congress, met President Ram Nath Kovind on Thursday and submitted a memorandum questioning the police investigations into the Delhi violence and unilateral action against the victims.
Congress leader Ahmed Patel, CPI leader D Raja, CPI (M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury, DMK's Kanimozhi and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Manoj Jha met the President and submitted a memorandum to him in the Delhi violence case.
The delegation said the police report was targeting peaceful protesters against the Citizenship Amendment Act
(CAA), the National Citizenship Register (NRC) and the National Population Register at the behest of the Union Home Ministry, while no action was taken against the inflammatory speeches of leaders of the ruling party when apart from senior leaders of the ruling party, cabinet ministers have also given inflammatory speeches.
Leaders of the Opposition also said in the memorandum to Mr Kovind that many innocent human rights activists, famous scholars and political leaders were targeted by the police in the investigation of Delhi violence.
"Conspiracy is being done in the name of investigation to save the conspirators involved in communal violence," the delegation said, pointing out that only the victims of the violence were being arrested while the criminals were roaming freely.
Significantly, on Wednesday, Delhi Police filed a 17,500-page chargesheet regarding the Delhi violence. The
police claimed in the chargesheet that it had enough evidence to prove the allegations.
