New Delhi, Aug 28 (UNI) Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Friday extended her support to the students fighting against Centre's decision of holding NEET and JEE examinations amid the Covid pandemic saying any decision on the future of the students should be taken with their concurrence.
In a video posted on the social media as part of the Congress online campaign 'SpeakUpForStudentSafety' against the decision of the Central Government to hold NEET and JEE examinations amid the Covid pandemic,
Ms Gandhi said, 'My dear students, I feel for you because you are now facing a very difficult situation. The issue of your exams, of when they should be held and where, is the most important issue not only for you but your family too.
'You are our future. We depend on you to build a better India. Therefore, if any decision has to be taken regarding your future, it is important that it is being taken with your concurrence. I hope the government listens to you, listens to your voices and act upon your wishes. This is my advice to the government," Ms Gandhi said.
The Congress is opposing the government's decision to hold these exams during the Covid pandemic as it put lakhs of students at risk.
The Congress and other opposition parties have moved the Supreme Court to defer the exams till the pandemic is under proper control.
The Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) and the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) are scheduled next month.
The Centre has defended its decision to hold the all-India exams - despite the risk of COVID-19 - due to "constant pressure from parents and students".
