New Delhi, Nov 24 (UNI) Congress on Tuesday slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government in the Centre for proposing corporate houses for opening banks as per the recommendations of the Interim Working Group of the RBI, saying it will allow capitalists to control the public's hard-earned money.
Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram and spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala, in a press conference here said the government's move has already been strongly opposed by former RBI Governor Dr Raghuram Rajan and former Deputy Governor Dr Viral Acharya.
"The Congress party also opposes this proposal and considers any such move as fatal to the public interest. If the banking system is handed over to a handful of corporates, then all efforts and exercise of the past 50 years to bring the banking system to the general public, farmers and poor will go useless", he said.
