New Delhi, Jul 11(UNI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his claim that the 750 megawatt (MW) Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Power project in Madhya Pradesh is Asia’s largest.
In a cryptic tweet on which he tagged a post from the Twitter handle of the Prime Minister’s Office describing Rewa power project as Asia's biggest power project, Rahul said, “Asatyagrahi!” (a person practicing the policy of untruth).
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on Friday dedicated the Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Power Project, which the government has also said will reduce emission equivalent to approximately 15 lakh tonne of carbon dioxide every year, to the nation through video conferencing.
After the event, A Twitter handle of the Prime Minister’s Office said in Hindi, 'PM @narendramodi dedicating Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Power project to the Nation(today Rewa has actually scripted history. Rewa is normally known by Narmada river and white tiger. Now, it had also become associated with Asia's biggest Solar power project).'
Earlier, Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar had sought clarification from the Union power minister over the government’s claim, saying that a 2,000 MW solar plant already exists in Pavagada of Karnataka’s Tumakuru district.
'Union Power Minister must answer as to how the Central government can claim that the Rewa Solar Park (750 MW) opened today is Asia's largest when clearly the Pavagada Park in Karnataka is much larger (2,000 MW) and was opened two years back!,' Mr Sivakumar said in a tweet.
“The unique thing about the 2000 MW Pavagada Mega Solar Park was that not a single acre of land was acquired from the farmers. All 13,000 acres have been leased from the farmers who are being given yearly rent. Karnataka model of Renewable Energy was accepted as the best in India,” he said in another post.
