Even Pakistan and Afghanistan handled Covid better than India: Rahul

New Delhi, Oct 16 (UNI) Continuing his attack on the BJP government at the Centre on the IMF growth projections for 2020-21 for India, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday said that even Pakistan and Afghanistan handled Covid pandemic better than India.

In a post on Twitter, Mr Gandhi, sharing on his social media account a graph that showed IMF growth projections for 2020-21 for Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal, China, Bhutan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and India, said, 'Another solid achievement by the BJP government. Even Pakistan and Afghanistan handled Covid better than India.'

The graph showed that the Indian economy is projected to contract by a massive 10.3 per cent this year, the highest contraction among the countries mentioned.

The graph showed that Pakistan and Afghanistan are expected to experience a dip of 0.40 per cent and 5 per cent in their GDP growth this fiscal.

In its projections on Tuesday, the IMF said that the Indian economy, which has been badly hit by the coronavirus pandemic, is projected to contract by a massive 10.3 per cent this year.

However, India is likely to bounce back with an impressive 8.8 per cent growth rate in 2021, thus regaining the position of the fastest growing emerging economy, surpassing China's projected growth rate of 8.2 per cent, the IMF said in its latest 'World Economic Outlook' report.
