Congress calls MLAs' meet in Punjab

Congress calls MLAs' meet in Punjab

New Delhi, Sep 18 (UNI) A meeting of the Congress legislative party in Punjab has been called on Saturday, state in-charge Harish Rawat said.
"The AICC has received a representation from a large number of MLAs from the congress party, requesting to immediately convene a meeting of the Congress Legislative Party of Punjab," Rawat said in a tweet.
"Accordingly, a meeting of the CLP has been convened at 5:00 PM on 18th September at Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee office," he said.
Rawat said that the All India Congress Committee asked the Punjab Congress to convene the meeting.
"All congress MLAs of Punjab are requested to kindly attend this meeting," he added.
The meeting comes amid a tussle between state Chief Minister Amrinder Singh, and Punjab Congress Chief Navjot Singh Sidhu.
Rawat had met Congress president Sonia Gandhi and General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Thursday in this regard.
The meeting comes after several MLAs of the party in a letter asked the party high command to convene a CLP meeting, to prepare for upcoming Punjab polls.
The letter did not mention the power tussle. It also said they wanted to discuss the 18-point agenda set for the Amarinder Singh government. The agenda was given to the Punjab CM by the central leadership of the party ahead of upcoming polls next year.
