New Delhi, Sep 9 (UNI) Former Maharashtra chief minister and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday came out in support of actor Kangana Ranaut and said civic body BMC moving in to demolish alleged illegal structures at her office in Mumbai, was an act of 'cowardice and revenge'.
Mr Fadnavis said, 'If there is illegal construction, action should be taken against all illegal activities. Then it is appropriate. But if action is taken against a person because that person has spoken against you, then it is cowardice and revenge.'
He said such action won't be respected in Maharashtra.
Mr Fadnavis said,' If we will strike people on the road who do not support us, and that also with the support of the government, this has never happened before in the history of Maharashtra'.
Stating through a video, he maintained that if some thing is incorrect, it should be said so, adding that if that hurts the prestige of Maharashtra or Maharashtra police in the country, it also causes insult to Maharashtra government because of its actions.
Ms Ranaut is at the centre of a heated political row with Maharashtra’s ruling Shiv Sena and its coalition partners over her remark comparing Mumbai to Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK).
The actor, who was recently given Y-category security after she said she was being threatened, landed in Mumbai.
The Bombay High Court directed Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to stop the demolition process of Ms Ranaut's office here at Pali Hill in Bandra.
The 33-year-old actor had moved the High Court, challenging the notice issued by BMC for 'illegal alterations' at her bungalow.
The matter is set for hearing on September 10.
Earlier in the day, the BMC demolished an illegal construction at the actor’s office here. Reacting to the BMC's action, Ms Ranaut, in a series of tweet, compared the BMC officials as "Babur and his army".
"There is no illegal construction in my house, also government has banned any demolitions due to Covid till September 30, Bollywood watch now this is what Fascism looks like", Ms Ranaut wrote on twitter.
Ms Ranaut has been engaged in a Twitter spat with the Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress government in Maharashtra after the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
