Congress opposes curfew, internet ban in Karnal ahead of farmers' protest

Congress opposes curfew, internet ban in Karnal ahead of farmers' protest

New Delhi, Sep 6 (UNI) The Congress on Monday slammed the BJP led governments in center, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana for trying to suppress the farmers' agitation instead of talking to the farmers, after the Haryana government shut down internet in Karnal and imposed section 144 ahead of gathering of farmers.
Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal in a statement said the gathering announced by farmers is justifiable, and the government should take action against the officials who attacked the farmers.
The comments come as Karnal's district administration announced suspension of internet services from 12.30 am on September 7 ahead of a "gherao" of the mini secretariat in Karnal called by farmers against the police action of August 28.
