New Delhi, Sep 3 (UNI) The Congress accusing the government at the centre of the current economic distress on Thursday said that after Independence it was for the first time the economy has suffered such a slump and the ruling dispensation is quiet on the matter, as it does not have any strategy or plan to get it back on track.
Speaking to media Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said that PM Narendra Modi and his government have no plan to rescue the economy and have not been able to chalk out a solution.
They are now silent over the issue and left it on god, Surjewala further said sharpening his attack.
'It was for the first time during the past 73 years that the GDP has fallen below zero that too upto 24 per cent, further meaning that the per capita income of the people will witness a downfall.
Government maintaining silence is dangerous in such a situation as the impact of the current scenario will affect the commoner.
"Inflation on one hand and government taxes on the other, and then recession, these three things are going to break the backbone of the commoner," Surjewala said.
He said that the reason as per experts is that in the year 2019-20 per capita income annually was Rs 135050, while in the current financial year 's first quarter April to June the GDP has come down 24 pc less than zero.
The situation is even worse in the second quarter that is July to September, and if the GDP falls by (-11) pc for the entire year, then its impact on the per capita income will be Rs 14900, that is a commoner's income would reduce by Rs 14,900 for the year.
