New Delhi, Jul 24 (UNI) Launching an attack on the BJP over Rajasthan situation, Congress on Friday alleged that the Governors are acting at the behest of the ruling dispensation in the country and working in an undemocratic way and by playing an important role in toppling the governments of opposition parties, and defining democracy in a new way.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal said that many of such examples have come up during the current BJP regime wherein with the help of Governors the opposition governments have been toppled, who's latest example is Rajasthan where the government wants to call for the assembly session, while the Governor is silent over its request and not doing anything.
Instead of going ahead with the constitutional duty, the Governor is rather acting on the behest of the ruling dispensation at the centre, Sibal alleged.
He said that Rajasthan's example was not alone, for the past few years the Governors have played an important role in toppling the opposition's governments in some states by helping BJP in the assemblies of several states where despite having a majority they were given a chance to form the government.
This way, at the behest of the BJP, the Governors are defining 'democracy' in a new form.
He said that there are several examples of the Governors going outside the constitutional boundaries and working for BJP.
Sharpening the attack, Sibal said that the Governors in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa created such a situation, and at the behest of BJP, the governments were destabilised in these states.
Everyone witnessed that in Maharashtra, in what way the BJP was given a chance to form its government in the state, and after the role of governor what situation is prevailed in the state that everyone knows, said the Congress leader.
This is how the BJP is coming up with a new definition of democracy, Sibal added.
He alleged further that the BJP is continuously indulging in unconstitutional acts and is threatening those who try to oppose them.
The young generation is devoid off 4G facilities in Kashmir valley, while journalists area not allowed to step out and venture freely.
There have been cases of sedition filed against the youth across the nation, Sibal added.
