New Delhi, Sep 1 (UNI) Slamming Information Technology and Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad for his letter to Facebook in which he alleged that the run-up to 2019 General Elections, there was a concerted effort by Facebook India management to delete pages of people who are supportive of the right-of-centre ideology, the Congress on Tuesday accused the Modi government of coming to the rescue of prejudiced offenders of Facebook India as the ugly nexus between the BJP and Facebook was exposed.
In a letter to Facebook Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg, Prasad raised concerns over the deletion of some pages and posts on Facebook, accusing some employees of the social media platform in India of bias and inaction.
“There was a concerted effort by Facebook India management to not just delete pages or substantially reduce their reach but also offer no recourse or right of appeal to affected people who are supportive of the right-of-centre ideology,” Prasad said in a letter to Facebook Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg.
Reacting to the letter by Ravi Shankar Prasad, AICC media in-charge Randeep Surjewala, in a post on the social media, said 'Finally, Cat’s out of bag ! Modi Govt comes to the rescue of prejudiced offenders of #Facebook India as the ugly nexus is exposed! Can the ilk of Ms. Anki Das hide behind Sh. Ravi Shankar Prasad & his lame duck letters in their defense?'
Earlier on Tuesday, the Congress, reiterating its charge that the social media giant Facebook has been helping the ruling BJP in the Centre to further its divisive agenda, the Congress on Tuesday demanded that the nexus between the BJP and Facebook must be investigated without delay.
'The aim of the BJP is ‘divide and rule’ and the social media giant Facebook is helping them achieve this. Casting aside democratic principles, BJP attempts to rule the Nation by manipulating and coercing public opinion. The blasphemous nexus between the BJP and Facebook is for all to witness and must be investigated without delay,'the Congress said in a statement.
