New Delhi, Sep 4 (UNI) Continuing its attack on the government at the Centre on the nearly 24 percent reduction in the GDP for the first quarter of 2020-21, Congress on Friday said for a 5 trillion dollar economy by 2024, a positive growth of 9 per cent is needed.
'For a 5 trillion Dollars economy by 2024, a positive growth of 9 per cent is needed but courtesy the BJP, it is at -23.9 per cent,' Congress spokesperson Gourav Vallabh said while addressing a special Congress party's virtual press
conference here.
'The point is that how did the condition of the economy get so bad?,' he questioned.
'Even a student can tell you that if investments are reduced then the economy will not do well,' the Congress spokesperson said.
He attacked the Government over the 'non payment of Goods and Services Tax (GST) dues to the states'.
'How will there be public investment? You do not give GST money to the states, you do not pay their dues, you tell them you do not even believe what is written in the constitution, ' he said.
'No public investments are happening, neither are you able to create a positive environment for private investment, nor are you doing anything to increase domestic investment. People are losing jobs, how will they invest?' he said.
Attacking the Centre over the issue of 'unemployment', he said many of the 3.60 crore unemployed people are graduates, post graduates, PhD, MBA, engineers.
'They’re well educated, before the 2019 elections you told them you will bring bumper jobs,' the Congress spokesperson said.
He said vacancy notification for RRB, ALP and Technicians 2018 was released on February 3, 2018.
The Congress spokesperson said on December 12, 2019, RRB released the final result.
He said after 9 months, RRB has not come out with a joining date. Number of vacancies that are to be filled is 64,371, the Congress spokesperson said.
'In SSC CGL 2018, tier I & tier II level exam, tier III level exam was conducted in December 2019. The results would have filled over 11,000 vacancies in Group C and Group D postings. Even after 9 months, final results have not been announced,' he said.
'When increasing demand in the economy should have been your focus and lakhs of jobs could have been added to the economy, why have there been no proactive efforts to expedite this?' he said.
