New Delhi, Dec 5 (UNI) A day after walking out of Tihar jail on bail, former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Thursday launched a scathing attack against Narendra Modi government over the state of economy, saying "this government is incapable of pulling Indian economy out of slowdown".
Addressing his first press conference at AICC headquarters, after the release from prison, Mr Chidambaram said that the government is making mistakes.
"It is wrong. Let me repeat, the government is wrong and they are wrong because they are clueless,", said the former Finance Minister, who was incarcerated in jail for 106 days, mostly in Tihar.
He also said that the economy can be brought out of the slowdown, and added that "but this government was incapable of doing that".
"We will be lucky to end the year if growth touches 5 per cent. Please remember Dr Arvind Subramanian's caution that five per cent under this government, because of suspect methodology, is not really five per cent but less by about 1.5 per cent," Mr Chidambaram said.
Earlier in the day, Mr Chidambaram has also joined a protest by the Congress MPs against the price hike of onions.
"The government cannot suppress my voice in Parliament", he told reporters.
Taking on the ruling dispensation, Mr Chidambaram has also said that the government has turned out to be an incompetent manager of the economy.
"Government is calling the present slowdown ‘cyclical’. Thank god they have not called it ‘seasonal’. It is ‘structural’ and the government has no solutions or reforms that would address the structural problems", the Congress leader added.
