New Delhi, Nov 1 (UNI) CPM central committee has ratified the Bengal unit's decision to have an electoral understanding with secular parties, including the Congress, in the Bengal Assembly elections next year.
"In Bengal, CPM and the Left Front will have an electoral understanding with all secular parties, including the Congress, which seek to defeat the BJP and the Trinamool Congress," party general secretary Sitaram Yechuri announced on Saturday after the two-day meeting of the central committee.
Mr Yechuri informed that the central committee also endorsed a similar proposal for Assam, and for Tamil Nadu, where CPM will contest as a part of the DMK-led alliance, of which the Congress is also a part.
In Kerala, CPM will continue to contest election as part of the Left Democratic Front (LDF), Mr Yechuri stated.
"The aim is to defeat the incumbent BJP Government which is sharpening communal polarisation, destabilising social harmony and heaping miseries on the people," Mr Yechuri maintained.
The Bengal Assembly elections, the second major polls in the country under the Covid shadow after the ongoing Bihar Assembly polls, is scheduled to be held during April-May, 2021.
