New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI) The world's largest hackathon 'Smart India Hackathon' will be held on March 2 at 48
centres of the country, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address simultaneously through video conferencing.
More than two lakh students are taking part in this third Hackathon organised by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) under the leadership of the Human Resource Development Ministry, which is five times larger than the first Hackathon. About 40,000 students participated in the first hackathon.
HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar also released a video message on the occasion in which he told how it is
making this successful by promoting the Hackathon Innovation and Make in India programme.
Higher Education Secretary R Subramaniam and AICTE President Anil Sahasrabudhe told reporters here that
this is the biggest hackathon anywhere in the world.
It is becoming so popular in India that within three years it has expanded five-fold. This time, industry has participated in it as is evident from the participation of over 34,000 teams while more than 52,000 entries have been received and 500 problems received.
The software version will be finalised on March 2, in which more than 1,300 teams will solve 36 hours of continuous problems at 48 different centres.
He said in 17 states, these centres will be located in which the maximum number of seven are in Tamil Nadu,
five in Uttar Pradesh, four in Karnataka and Maharashtra, two each in Kerala and Andhra Pradesh.
Apart from this, these centres are also in Bihar, West Bengal, Punjab, Gujarat, Delhi and Assam among
others.
He told that Indian Space Research Department of Atomic Energy, Indian Oil to Tata, Bajaj and Apollo have also given their problems to solve.
