New Delhi, Nov 28 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday exhorted the countrymen to take precautions against Novel Coronavirus, in the wake of new Covid variant 'Omicron' cases being reported in Israel, Botswana and Hongkong.
"Corona is not over yet. It is the responsibility of all of us to take precautions," said Modi, during his 83rd 'Mann Ki Baat' address.
The statement of the Prime Minister comes a day after he held a review meeting with the officials concerned over Covid-19. In the meeting, he was briefed about the new Covid variant.
Modi had asked the officials to review plans for easing of international travel restrictions in light of the emerging new evidence.
He also directed that genome sequencing samples be collected from international travellers and community as per norms, tested through the network of labs already established under the INSACOG and early warning signal identified for Covid-19 management.
As per the latest Covid-19 bulletin issued by the Union Health Ministry on Sunday, 8,774 new Covid-19 cases were reported in India in the last 24 hours, while 621 people succumbed to the disease.
According to the bulletin, 9,481 people have recuperated from the disease during the past 24 hours. Active cases stand at 1,05,691.
