New Delhi, Jan 23 (UNI) Newly appointed Chief Election Commissioner Om Prakash Rawat on Tuesday said there is no ‘weakness’ and 'infirmity’ on Election Commission’s decision in disqualifying 20 MLAs of Aam Aadmi Party in Office of Profit case.
He was talking to mediapersons at Election Commission after taking over as the new CEC.
Responding to a question on the Election Commission’s decision, Mr Rawat said, “It is a quasi judicial matter, so it is not right to comment on it. But I would like to say that whenever Election Commission takes a decision, it keeps in view that there is no weakness and infirmity in it”.
President Ram Nath Kovind on Sunday approved the recommendation made by Election Commission to disqualify 20 AAP MLAs.
Mr Rawat clarified the poll body's decision on various issues, including electoral bond and simultaneous election.
He said the Election Commission will set up a committee in three days to examine the electoral bond report and will comment after that.
Mr Rawat succeeds Achal Kumar Joti, a Gujarat cadre IAS officer, who remitted office on Monday. Mr Rawat will be the Chief Election Commissioner till December.
