Next LS election will be fought on economic issues: Sharad Yadav

New Delhi, Oct 7 (UNI) Rebel JD-U leader Sharad Yadav on Saturday accused the Narendra Modi government of trying to polarise people on the basis of religion to divert the attention from the real issues of economic slow down and job loss after the demonetisation and implementation of GST. He said, the 2019 Lok sabha election will be fought on economic issues. Briefing the media, a day before JD-U's Yadav faction's National Council meeting here, he announced nationwide protest against the government. Even after Babri Masjid demolition, Bihar stayed peaceful because of the communal harmony among the people, but during the Dussehra and Muharram this year, the state witnessed communal flairs at least at 30-35 places, he said. Attempt to polarise people is a tactic employed by the ruling party to distract from the real issues, Mr Yadav criticised. Sharad Yadav said, 'the country is going through the tough phase because of the current government's policies.' "These issues will be the key factors in the next polls," he added. Farmers, small scale traders, labourers and all are facing the heat of demonetisation and poorly implemented GST and it affected the weaker section of the society very badly, he alleged. While the Centre promised that it would create two crores employment, the reality is that 3 to 5 crore people have lost their livelihood and employment due to demonetisation, Mr Yadav pointed out. Earlier, the Opposition leaders like Dr Manmohan Singh and P Chidambaram had criticised the government, but now the ruling party leaders are coming to attack the government, Mr Yadav citing the recent outburst of senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha against the government. He alleged that the announcement made regarding the certain amendments on GST was just to divert the attention of the public. Government itself confessed that in the last one year, the wealth of only 138 persons has been increased tremendously, whereas it has made the entire population as tax thief and earning without any work, he criticised. He also criticised the Green Tribunal's decision to ban holding the protest in Jantar Mantar and demanded that the order should be withdrawn. The alternate site, Ramleela Maidan, suggested by the tribunal is not the place to hold public protest because it's a populated area. He reminded that people are protesting against injustice and said these all are the people of this country. Mr Yadav wanted to know what happened to tribunal's order against spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravishankar who was told to pay damage for the destruction of Yamuna floodplanes, which has not been paid.
