IJU condemns 'gagging' of media by UP govt.

New Delhi, Oct 7 (UNI) The Indian Journalists Union (IJU) on Wednesday strongly condemned the alleged 'gagging' of media by the Uttar Pradesh government and UP police assault on and arrest of journalists covering the Hathras incident.
In a statement IJU President and former member of the Press Council of India, Geetartha Pathak, and Secretary General and IFJ Vice President Sabina Inderjit condemned the incidents saying the Yogi Adityanath government was indulging in undeclared censorship of the media and denying the citizens right to information.
Two freelance journalists--Asad Rizvi from UP was allegedly beaten by police in Lucknow while Delhi-based journalist Siddique Kappan was detained at Mathura, the IJU said.
