Our defence acquisition and supplies guided by national security interests: India on S-400 purchase

New Delhi, Nov 26 (UNI) Ahead of the bilateral summit with Russia and as it prepares to receive deliveries of the Russian-made S-400 missiles, India said on Friday that it pursues an independent foreign policy which also applies to its defence acquisition and supplies that are guided by its national security interests.
To a question if the US’ Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) figured in the RIC Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on Friday and if the issue of the S-400 missiles were discussed, the MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said he did not want to go into what was discussed between the foreign ministers of Russia, India and China.
On the purchase of S-400 missiles by India, to which the US has protested, he said: “Regarding the CAATSA waiver, India and the US have a comprehensive global strategic partnership and India has a special and privileged strategic partnership with Russia; we also pursue an independent foreign policy, this also applies to our defence acquisition and supplies, which are guided by our national security interests.”
