According to some sociologists, at play is a complex mix of patriarchy and value systems. They feel, the expectations that are set by the society lead women to prioritise family. Career progression is hard work and takes a strong commitment and societal expectations from women perhaps influence their purpose.
They identified four 'salient features' of women's non-performance- women need to assert, do not ask, lack management interventions and role models.
'' They remain at the same position for years sometimes because they prefer the predictability of the job. They also avoid travel and some positions knowing that promotions will mean more responsibility which may be detrimental for their work-life balance. Women also need to constantly upskill,'' the sociologiasts said, adding '' ''Men who rise up the ranks don't miss an opportunity to do a new leadership course,or get a new certification which is imperative to keep up with the evolving needs of the organisations.''
