New Delhi, Aug 19 (UNI) Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected a plea questioning the appointment of its retired judge, Justice BS Chauhan as head of the three-member commission constituted to probe into encounter killing of Uttar Pradesh gangster Vikas Dubey.
"We are dismissing the petition filed by the petitioner, Ghanshyam Upadhyay in the case. The petition is devoid of merit. We dismiss it thereby," a bench of the Apex Court, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sharad Arvind Bobde said, in his order.
The top court pronounced the order through video conferencing, said, it provides "certain safeguards" to the manner in which the Inquiry Commission headed by former Supreme Court Judge B S Chauhan is to probe the encounter killings of Vikas Dubey and his aides by Uttar Pradesh Police after the gang killed eight policemen at Bikru village.
