SC dumps petition on prevention of suicides among IIT students

New Delhi, Sep 24 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Thursday not only dismissed a petition seeking directions to authorities concerned to prevent suicides among Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) students, but also imposed a fine on the petitioner for filling an "utterly frivolous" petition.
Lawyer Gaurav Kumar Bansal, in his petition, claimed that suicides rate among the IIT students is rising and appropriate steps are needed to prevent it.
However, a three-judge bench, headed by Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman, found the plea devoid of any merits and also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the petitioner.
