New Delhi, Sep 24 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Thursday disposed of a petition on awaited compartment papers result for Class X and XII students after the Central Board of Secondary Education ensured the court of declaring the result by October 10.
Advocate Rupesh Kumar told a division bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar and Sanjeev Khanna that the board will release the results of compartment paper by October 10 while the University Grants Commission (UGC) will continue admissions to colleges till October 31.
Even if the result is declared on October 10, the students will still have a time of 21 days to apply in various colleges, Kumar told the Court.
It was also informed that admissions to vacant seats in colleges will continue even after October 31 and will be temporarily closed on December 31.
Senior advocate Vivek Tankha, appearing on behalf of the students, contended that delay in the compartment results will lead to closure of admissions in colleges with no option left for students.
Satisfied with the submissions by the CBSE and UGC, the bench disposed of the petition.
On Tuesday, the Apex Court had asked the CBSE and UGC to make appropriate provisions for students who have given compartment examination owing to unusual circumstances resulting from COVID-19 pandemic.
