Khaleda Zia's British counsel Lord Carlile denied entry to India

Khaleda Zia's British counsel Lord Carlile denied entry to India

New Delhi, July 12 (UNI) India on Wednesday night did not allow entry to British national and lawyer Lord Alexander Carlile, a counsel for former Bangladesh Prime Minister Khaleda Zia after he landed at Delhi airport on the grounds that he did not have a valid visa and his intended activity was "incompatible" with the purpose of his visit.
"Lord Alexander Carlile, a British national, arrived in New Delhi on July 11 without having obtained the appropriate Indian visa. His intended activity in India was incompatible with the purpose of his visit as
mentioned in his visa application. It was therefore decided to deny him entry into India upon arrival," MEA spokesperson said here on Thursday.
Mr Carlile was scheduled to hold a press conference in New Delhi on Thursday afternoon.
Independent observers of Bangladesh affairs maintain that Carlile is known to have links with extremist group Jamaat-e-Islami.
