New Delhi Sep 26 (UNI) Delhi High Court today reserved order on the anticipatory bail application of Honeypreet Insan, wanted by Haryana Police in connection with violence following conviction of the Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmet Ram Rahim Singh. Counsel Pardeep Kumar Arya had moved an anticipatory bail application on behalf of Priyanka Taneja alias Honeypreet, the adopted daughter of the jailed Dera chief Gurmeet. Arya sought three weeks transit anticipatory bail for Honeypreet and submitted that that there is "danger" to her life. A Central Bureau of Investigation Special Judge in Panchkula had convicted Ram Rahim on August 25, 2017, triggering violence and arson in Panchkula and Sirsa districts of Haryana which had left 41 people dead and many others injured. Honeypreet is wanted by Haryana Police and is foremost on the list of 43 persons in connection with the violence that had followed Ram Rahim's conviction in the rape cases. On August 28, 2017, CBI Special Judge had sentenced Ram Rahim to 20 years in prison for the 2002 rape of two of his disciples. Honeypreet had travelled along with the so-called godman in the special chopper which ferried them to Rohtak from Panchkula after the conviction and on August 25, 2017, accompanied the Dera head when he had come to the Special CBI Court. Ram Rahim is currently lodged in Sunaria jail in Rohtak district of Haryana. Several squads of Haryana Police fanned out across the nation, including the Indo-Nepal border, to trace Honeypreet. Delhi High Court Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar after hearing the urgent plea for Honeypreet's application sought to know from the counsel that why they are "superexcited now". The High Court told counsel, "You must be anticipating this." Justice Sangita Dhingra Sehgal of the Delhi HC heard arguments on the anticipatory bail application of Honeypreet at 1400 hrs when her counsel submitted to hear the petition on an urgent basis as there is "danger" to her life. Defence contended that Honeypreet is a single woman with clean antecedents and is law abiding and willing to join the investigation if granted the anticipatory bail by the High court. Government Counsel submitted before the court of Justice Sehgal that Delhi HC does not have the jurisdiction to hear the anticipatory bail application of Honeypreet and Punjab and Haryana High Court has sole competence. Justice Sehgal questioned the counsel of Honeypreet how her anticipatory bail application comes under the jurisdiction of Delhi High Court as she is wanted in connection with a case of Haryana. Counsel Arya contended that Honeypreet has a residence in Delhi so the HC has the jurisdiction to hear her bail application as she apprehends arrest. Honeypreet is seeking bail for her transit from Delhi to Haryana to join investigation in the sedition case. Counsel further submitted that Honeypreet will join the investigation of the case if she is protected. The court said,' The easiest way out for you would be to surrender.' UNI XC RP1717
