New Delhi, July 19 (UNI) Around 245 Indian nationals, including 125 students, crossed over to India from violence-hit Bangladesh, with the Indian High Commission in Dhaka facilitating their travel back to India, said sources.
The High Commission of India in Dhaka is coordinating with local authorities in Bangladesh to provide adequate security to students who are keen on traveling to India, amid the violent anti-quota protests in Bangladesh.
The Indian High Commission in coordination with the BSF and Bureau of Immigration is facilitating Indian students who are traveling back to India from Bangladesh, the sources added.
Till around 8 pm today, 245 Indians had crossed over, including 125 students, from the immigration point at Gede, in West Bengal.
Thirteen Nepali students also crossed over, facilitated by the Indian High Commission.
The sources said that the border crossings between India and Bangladesh, at the points: Benapole-Petrapole; Gede-Darshana; and Akhaura-Agartala -- will remain open for students and Indian nationals to arrive in India.
The High Commission of India in Dhaka and the Assistant High Commissions of Indian in Bangladesh remain available for any assistance required by Indian nationals, the sources added.
Bangladesh has been in the grip of continuing violent protests against reservation in jobs for family members of war veterans, with reports of around 30 people killed and many more wounded in clashes with police.
