India, UK sign MoU to enhance legal cooperation

New Delhi, Jul 12 (UNI) India and UK have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the field of law and justice, aiming to develop shared approaches to future challenges and opportunities among both the countries.

UK Justice Secretary David Gauke and Indian Minister of Law, Justice, Electronics and IT, Ravi Shankar Prasad, met in London to further strengthen bilateral working, British High Commission in New Delhi said in a statement.

The MoU will enhance engagement between the two countries and pave the way for greater collaboration and exchange of expertise across areas, including rule of law, dispute resolution, training, and legal services regulation.

Both sides also agreed to have closer cooperation between the members of legal professionals and the formation of a joint consultative committee.

A British justice ministry spokesperson said, “With our shared Common Law heritage, values, and close links between legal professions, there is huge potential for further UK-India collaboration across a wide range of areas.”

“We look forward to sharing expertise between our two countries, working together to develop shared approaches to future challenges and opportunities, and to helping to develop opportunities for exchange between legal professionals in the UK and India,” he added.
