India sees highest single-day spike of 8380 Covid-19 cases, death toll at 5,164


New Delhi, May 31 (UNI) As the nationwide lockdown 4.0 comes to an end on Sunday, with the highest ever jump of infections with 8380 cases, India's Covid-19 tally reached to 1,82,143, while the death toll rose to 5,164 with 193 fresh fatalities, according to the Health Ministry.
However, the recovery rate of Corona paitents has increased to 47.76 per cent, the official data said.
As many as 4614 more patients were recovered taking total number of cured and discharged patients to 86,984.
The cases under active medical supervision have now once again inched to 90,000 pan India, with the figure now standing at 89,995.
Amid the coronavirus pandemic across the globe, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that the current situation should be taken as a lesson to make provisions for the future.
He cited the situation of workers in the eastern states as a case in point and said, "The problem suffered by the poor during the crisis has been exacerbated by the lack of development in the region."
Rising cases was becoming a cause of concern, especially for the cities like Mumbai and Delhi having high density of population and number of cases on the higher side, and now lock down 5.0 starting from Monday, in a much relaxed manner everyone would have to be more cautious with respect to the guidelines and follow them by heart to win the fight against the pandemic.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra's tally has reached 65168, after witnessing a fresh spike of 2940 infections. The worst hit COVID state's death toll has now mounted to 2187, while the recoveries have now improved to 28081.
Tamil Nadu having recorded the second-highest number of cases now houses 21184 cases, while 160 lives have been claimed so far by the virus spread in the southern state.
Delhi on Sunday recorded the highest single-day jump with more than 1,200 fresh novel coronavirus cases in last 24 hours pushing the total number of virus cases to 19,844.
The death toll also increased to 473 in the National Capital after 13 more fatalities were reported since Saturday, according to official data.
