Hindi speaking people need to take initiative to learn other languages: Prez

New Delhi, Sep 14 (UNI) While terming Hindi as a unifying factor among people belonging to different communities and various regions, President Ram Nath Kovind, however, today stressed that Hindi speaking people need to take initiative to learn other languages to help expand the reach of the Hindi language across the country. Speaking after presenting the Rajbhasha Awards for the year 2016-17 on the occasion of 'Hindi Divas' today, the President said that the development and expansion of Hindi was dependent on the initiative by the Hindi speaking people to imbibe other languages of the country. 'To ensure that those who speak other languages adopt Hindi as their National language, Hindi speaking people need to take initiative for learning other languages. When Hindi-speaking people take the initiative to learn other Indian languages, those speaking other Indian languages will be encouraged to learn Hindi . It is the responsibility of all of us to help take all Indian languages forward with the same level of cooperation and equality." "When a Hindi-speaking person greet other brothers and sisters who speak different languages with words like 'Vadakkam', 'Sat Sri Akal' or 'Adab', that very moment, he associates with them at the level of sentiments and respect,' the President said at the function where Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Ministers of State for Home Affairs Hansraj Gangaram Ahir and Kiran Rijiju were also present. Describing Hindi as a unifying factor for various communities across the country and the world, the President said,'the spirit of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam', which sees the whole world as one family is part of the Hindi language structure. The Hindi language has the ability to co-opt other languages and dialects within itself. We need to make full use of this ability.' In this context, the President said new and technical terms can be adopted in Hindi language without translation. 'Words like 'railway station' and 'register' were a part of Hindi years before they were translated. In a similar manner, many new words should also be included in Hindi language. Translation of these words reduces the simplicity of the Hindi language. This will also help bring uniformity in the Hindi language,' the President said. He said that continuous efforts are necessary to ensure that more employment opportunities can be made available to youth educated in Hindi language. 'I am happy to know that many technical and professional courses are being run in Hindi,'he said. On this occasion, the President also launched the ‘LILA Mobile App’ . More UNI AR SNU 1530
