India's nCoV tally spikes: Global total tops 3.8 crore

New Delhi, Oct 16 (UNI) India's COVID-19 tally on Friday reached 73,70,469 after a fresh spike of 63,371 cases was recorded in the past 24 hours, Union Health Ministry said in its daily update.
Meanwhile, 70,338 coronavirus patients were cured/discharged during the same time-frame, taking to 64,53,780 the total number of recoveries.
The number of global Novel Coronavirus cases topped 3.88 crore, while the deaths have soared to more than 10,97,180 Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed in its latest update, Johns Hopkins University said.
The total number of cases stood at 38,833,032 and the fatalities increased to 1,097,189, according to its latest update.
USA has the world's highest number of cases and deaths at 7,977,097 and 217,754, respectively, according to the CSSE.
India comes in second place in terms of cases at 7,307,097, while the country's toll soared to 11,12,66 deaths.
The other countries cases are Brazil (5,169,386), Russia (1,346,380), Argentina (949,063) and Colombia (936,982)the CSSE figures showed.
Brazil currently accounts for 1,52,460 fatalities.
The countries with fatalities above 20,000 are Mexico (85,285), UK (43,383), Italy (36,372).
Active case load has further reduced by 7,862 since Thursday and the number currently stands at 8,04,528.
In terms of percentage, the active cases are 10.92 per cent. Recovery rate stands at 87.56 per cent, while the death rate is at 1.52 per cent.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), as many as 10,28,622 samples were tested in the past 24 hours, taking the total cumulative samples tested since the beginning of the pandemic till Thursday to 9,22,54,927.
Maharashtra continues to remain the worst affected state with maximum case count as well as in terms of maximum active cases.
