COVID-19 tally crosses 73 lakh-mark in India

New Delhi, Oct 15 (UNI) The number of positive cases due to Novel Coronavirus crossed the mark of 73 lakh on Thursday, as the country registered fresh 67,708 cases in the past 24 hours, taking the overall tally to 73,07,098, while the death toll reached 1,11,266 after 680 more people succumbed to the deadly virus in the past 24 hours.
According to the Union Health Ministry, 81,514 COVID patients were cured/discharged during the same time-frame, taking the total number of recoveries to 63,83,441 and recovery rate to 87.36 per cent.
The country is currently home to 8,12,390 active cases of the contagion.
Maharashtra continued to top the COVID charts in the country, registering 15,54,389 cases, including 10,552 new additions, with 13,16,769 recoveries and 40,859 deaths, so far.
The number of Novel Coronavirus positive cases rose to 6,74,802 in Tamil Nadu, after the state recorded 4,410 fresh infections, while the death toll touched 10,472 with 49 fatalities.
With 3,892 fresh cases coming to light in the past 24 hours, Andhra Pradesh's COVID tally reached 7,67,465, including 10,552 new additions, with 7,19,477 recoveries and 6,319 deaths, so far.
Karnataka registered 7,35,371 cases, including 9,265 new additions, 6,11,167 recoveries and 10,198 deaths, so far.
With 12 fresh deaths reported due to Coronavirus infection during the past two days, the causalities due to COVID-19 increased to 972 in Bihar, while the number of cases shot up to 200825, after addition of 1276 new patients.
Altogether, 2,636 fresh cases of COVID-19 were reported in Uttar Pradesh, while 3,239 people recovered in the past 24 hours.
The total positive cases in Uttar Pradesh reached 4,47,383, of which 4,04545 have recovered and 36,295 were admitted to the hospitals or were in home isolation, getting treatment. The recovery percentage in the state also increased to 90.42 per cent.
The spike in Coronavirus cases and deaths continued in the Union Territory of Puducherry with 245 more persons diagnosed positive and two patients died since the last 24 hours. There was 4,551 active cases now.
