New Delhi, Nov 6 (UNI) India on Friday reported 47,638 new cases of novel coronavirus during the past 24 hours, pushing the country's overall caseload to 84.11 lakh while the death toll soared to 1,24,985 with 670 fresh fatalities.
According to Union Health Ministry's daily update, the active cases saw a drop of 7,189 and currently stood at 5,20,773.
The front-line medics were able to save 54,157 more lives, taking the total recovery count till now to 77,65,966 which is 92.20 per cent of the caseload. The fatality rate stands at 1.49 per cent.
Of the fresh fatalities, maximum 256 were reported from Maharashtra followed by 66 from Delhi, 54 from West Bengal, 44 from Chhattisgarh, 31 from Karnataka, 28 from Tamil Nadu, 27 from Uttar Pradesh and 26 from Kerala.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), as many as 12,09,425 samples were tested on Thursday, taking the total cumulative samples tested since the beginning of the pandemic till Friday to 11,42,08,384.
On global stage, the total caseload and death toll stood at 48,590,825 and 1,231,616, respectively. The US is the worst-hit country with the world's highest number of cases and deaths.
The top 15 countries, apart from US and India, with the maximum amount of cases are Brazil (5,590,025), Russia (1,699,695), France (1,648,989), Spain (1,306,316), Argentina (1,217,028), the UK (1,126,469), Colombia (1,117,983), Mexico (943,630), Peru (911,787), Italy (824,879), South Africa (732,414), Iran (654,936), Germany (619,186), Chile (516,582), and Iraq (489,571), the CSSE figures showed.
Brazil currently accounts for the second highest number of fatalities at 161,106.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, it was officially learnt that an Indian vaccine could be launched as early as February - months earlier than expected - as last-stage trials began this month and studies have so far showed it is safe and effective.
