Centre tells 10 states, 1 UT to proactively bring down Covid deaths below 1 pc

New Delhi, Aug 27 (UNI) The Centre on Thursday urged nine states and one union territory to proactively limit Covid-19 transmission and keep the mortality below 1 per cent.
Conveying this message, Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba in a video conference with the Chief Secretaries and Health Secretaries of nine states and one UT stressed on ensuring that at least in 80 per cent of new positive cases, all close contacts should be traced and tested within 72 hours and that a minimum of 140 tests per million per day were carried out in all districts while targeting a positivity/confirmation rate of less than 5 per cent.
The states/UT attending the VC were Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, Gujarat, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir, alongwith the Union Health Secretary, DG ICMR and Member (Health), NITI Aayog, an official release here said.
