Govt taking extraordinary steps to boost economy, no need to panic or spread panic: NITI Aayog VC

New Delhi, Aug 23(UNI) After his purported comments on Thursday that Indian economy was facing an unprecedented crisis evoked sharp reactions from the opposition, NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar on Friday requested the media 'to stop misinterpreting' his statement and said the government has been taking bold steps to accelerate the country's economy and will continue to do so in future as well.
Taking to microblogging sit Twitter, Mr Kumar said, 'I would request the media to stop misinterpreting my statement. The government has been taking bold steps to accelerate our economy and will continue to do so.'
He also went on to say that 'there is no need to panic or spread panic.'
'The cassendras should now accept that the government is well on top of the situation and will do all it can to revive the 'animal spirits' in the economy,' the NITI Aayog VC said in a missive.
His comments come a day after his statements made during a summit here, on Thursday, where he said that 'the government must do whatever possible to handle the high stress in the financial sector which has resulted in an economic slowdown.'
"This is an unprecedented situation for the government of India. In the last 70 years nobody had faced this sort of situation where the entire financial system is under threat and nobody is trusting anybody else. Within the private sector nobody is ready to lend, everyone is sitting on cash,' he had said.
The NITI Aayog vice chairman's comments on Thirsday evoked sharp reactions from the opposition with congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Manish Tewari saying that it was an acknowledgement of the deep mess in the economy under the NDA rule.
