New Delhi, Apr 25 (UNI) NITI Aayog member Bibek Debroy today advocated to bring farmer’s income into income tax net as par with the existing one for the common urban people so that the tax net could get widened. Briefing mediapersons on the ‘Draft Action Agenda for Three Years’ Mr Debroy said that as on date those living in the rural areas or in villages claim all their income as agriculture income and no tax is levied on them. He said that the exemptions given to farmers in the tax are being misused in a big way. There must be a threshold on the exemptions given to farmers. He claimed that all their income may not be the agricultural income. Many farmers have income from many other sources which should be taxed. As on date most of the people living in villages show all their income as agriculture income and get rid of the taxes. When asked specifically if agricultural income would also be brought under the ambit, he said all means all without exemption. More UNI ADP RSA SHK 1909
