New Delhi, Sep 24 (UNI) Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' on Thursday said rural Olympics could be planned on the Gujarat and Punjab model to popularise indigenous sports.
Addressing a function held here by video conferencing on the completion of one year of the Fit India Campaign, Dr Pokhriyal said "A healthy mind has a healthy body and a healthy body and mind can be found through sports. In today's stressful environment, it is very important for a person to stay fit. When there is a good mind then good thoughts also come and when good thoughts come then one will do good deeds and reach the peak."
Giving details of the work done by the Ministry of Education under the Fit India campaign in the past one year, the Union Minister said the Department of School Education and Literacy, in coordination with the Sports Department, had organised "Fitness Pledge" in schools on August 29, 2019 and around 13 lakh schools and 11 crore students across the country had taken the pledge of fitness. Altogether 3,30,834 schools and 4,03,74147 students had participated in the Fit India Week activities organised last year.
