New Delhi, Oct 14 (UNI) India will participate in the Moscow Format meeting on Afghanistan on October 20, the first such meeting after the Taliban takeover of Kabul.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said India has received an invitation for the Moscow Format meeting on Afghanistan, to be held on October 20.
“We will be participating in it, it’s likely that we will have it at the Joint Secretary level,” he added.
The Moscow format is a negotiation mechanism established in 2017 to address Afghan issues. It includes Afghanistan, China, Pakistan, Iran, India, and other countries. It held several rounds of talks in Moscow in 2017 and 2018.
The Taliban have been invited to the meeting. Russia’s Tass news agency reported that a Taliban delegation will arrive in Moscow next week for the Moscow Format talks.
Russia is also planning to convene a meeting of the Troika Plus – Russia, the US, China, and Pakistan –to discuss the latest developments in Afghanistan, though no date has been specified yet.
