New Delhi, July 15 (UNI) At least five people were killed and several others injured after the wall of an under construction warehouse collapsed in Delhi's Alipur area on Friday.
Ambulances and fire tenders which rushed to the scene rescued 13 of them and shifted them to the Satyawati Raja Harish Chandra Hospital at Narela. Five of them were declared dead by doctors.
The disaster took place in Bakoli village, burying around 20 labourers who were digging a foundation nearby. The wall was being constructed on private land which is a rural village. The Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) had issued a restraint order against the construction, said Municipal Corporation of Delhi.
MCD had also carried out demolition action on April 22 and wrote letter after demolition to concerned Police Station to keep a watch and not let construction happen again, MCD statement stated.
On July 13, during a field visit by Junior Engineer, construction activities were found and after booking the property, he had issued notice to the owner in this regard, it stated.
Police said legal action was being initiated against the owner of the land and the contractor.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the incident and prayed that those injured will recover soon.
