Delhi Police Commissioner, other officials pay tributes to martyrs on Commemoration Day

New Delhi, Oct 21 (UNI) Police Commemoration Day was held here at the Parade Ground of New Police Lines at the Kingsway Camp on Sunday morning. Rich tributes were paid to the policemen who laid their lives in the line of duty.
The day was marked by the presence of Delhi Police Commissioner, Mr Amulya Patnaik. While addressing the officials of Delhi police and other visitors present at the scene, Mr Patnaik expressed his homage towards the 414 policemen who were martyred in the line of duty last year.
Mr Patnaik also read out the casualties from various regions across the country and saluted the spirit and valour of the martyred souls, while also paying obeisance to the policemen who sacrificed their lives, while serving the Delhi Police.
The martyr’s book was brought towards the dais in slow march by the Assisstant Commissioner of Police Mr Abhishek Gupta. The police band paid homage to the book which was then saluted by the officers.
The martyr’s book was then placed on the memorial, where the Retired Delhi Police Commissioners Shri TR Kakkar, Sh BK Gupta, Shri Neeraj Kumar and Sh BS Bassi along with other retired and serving senior police officers paid homage by laying wreath at the memorial. A two
minutes silence was observed in remembrance of martyrs.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also inaugurated a revamped national police memorial and a newly constructed national museum for the police-men in a separate event on Sunday.
A 30-feet-tall and 238-tonne hevy black granite central sculpture respecting the martyred khaki-clad
men, a museum and a wall of bravery with the names of over 34,800 martyred personnel were unveiled during the event where the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Ministers of State in the Home Ministry Kiren Rijiju, Hansram G Ahir, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, while other senior officers were also present.
The day is observed every year as a mark of respect towards the 10 police-men killed in a surprise attack by the Chinese soldiers in Ladakh’s Hot Spring area. Other officers and men in the line of duty,
who had sacrificed their lives while protecting the interests and honour of the country, are remembered on the day and paid homage.
