New Delhi/Jalgaon, Jun 5 (UNI) Cyclone Nisarga improved the overall air quality index of Mumbai, which stood at 17 on Friday, the best for this year, while the peasants were pinning all their hopes on the South-Western Monsoon, which was advancing across the country.
Conditions were becoming favourable for further advancement of Southwest Monsoon into some more parts of central Arabian Sea, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, during the next two days, forecast the India Meteorological Department.
It further said that heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to lash isolated places in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Kerala and Mahe during the next 24 hours.
Heavy rainfall accompanied with hail and thunderstorm lashed many parts of Himachal Pradesh. According to the Met Department, rain and thundershowers will drench many places in the state during the next 24 hours.
Cloudy weather with spells of showers prevailed in many parts of Telangana, including the state capital city of Hyderabad, offering relief from the unbearable heat experienced by the people till recently.
The overcast conditions will prevail during the next four days and light to moderate rains or thundershowers were also likely, the Meteorological Centre said. The Weather office warned that thunderstorms were likely to occur in parts of Telangana on June 8 and 9.
Thunderstorm with lightning was likely to occur at isolated places in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam during the next 24 hours, on June 7, 8, 9, besides in Rayalaseema on June 8 and 9.
Rainfall occurred at few places in Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, and at isolated places in Telangana and Rayalaseema during the last 24 hours.
The highest maximum temperature of 40 degree Celsius was recorded at Nalgonda in Telangana and 41.4 degrees at Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh during the same period.
Rainfall lashed Delhi in the afternoon where maximum temperature dropped to 35.3 degrees Celsius, five notches below the normal.
As per the Met Department, the rainfall recorded till 1730 hrs at Safdarjung was 1.2 mm, Lodhi road w0.6 mm, and at Ayanagar 21.7 mm.
A high-powered central team began surveying the impact and damages, especially in the two contiguous districts of South and North 24 Parganas, caused on the people and property by the super cyclone Amphan, which killed at least 98 people and left trails of destruction on May 21.
The central team visit, a promise fulfilled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who already made aerial survey along with Governor Jagdeep Dhankar and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on May 23 and announced Rs 1,000 crore relief, happened a night after a seven-member central officials arrived here on Thursday.
The central team comprised officials from Home department, Agriculture, Fisheries, Expenditure ministry, Hydro and Energy department.
