Cultural heritage, military might to showcase at R-Day

New Delhi, Jan 23 (UNI) The country's military might and rich cultural heritage were showcased
during a full dress rehearsal for the 69th Republic day parade which was held on Tuesday.

The full dress rehearsal of the parade commenced from Vijay Chowk at 0950 hrs and culminated at
Red Fort.

Tableaux of different states including Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, the union territory of Lakshadweep, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Tripura rolled down the Rajpath during the full dress rehearsal for the Republic Day parade.

The stunts and acrobatics of the 'Daredevils' were presented at the full dress rehearsal which included the first all-women bikers' contingent of Border Security Force and tableaus of Indian Air Force and Indian Navy.

Bridge Layer Tank T-72, Weapon Locating Radar (Swathi), Troop Level Radar (TLR) and Brahmos
WPN System passed Rajpath during the full dress rehearsal.

'Airwarriors' painted the Rajpath blue during the full dress rehearsal.

Traffic movement in the national capital was affected due to the full dress rehearsal.

According to a traffic police official, traffic movement was affected at places like ITO and from
Akshardham till Nizamuddin.

The traffic movement was also slow from Ashram till the Delhi-Noida-Delhi flyover.
The traffic was also affected at Mayur Vihar Phases I and III, from Karol Bagh to Rajendra Nagar.

In view of the full dress rehearsal of the Republic Day Parade, the traffic police had made
arrangements and restrictions along the parade route for its smooth conduct between India Gate and
the Red Fort.

There were also restrictions on entering the following Metro stations: Central Secretariat from 0500
hrs till 1200 hrs on Tuesday, Udyog Bhawan, Lok Kalyan Marg and Patel Chowk (Race Course)
from 0845 hrs to 1200 hrs.

In order to facilitate smooth passage of the Parade, movement of traffic on certain roads was
restricted from 1800 hrs onwards last evening including Rajpath from Vijay Chowk to India Gate. No
cross traffic on Rajpath was allowed from 1100 hrs on Tuesday at Rafi Marg, Janpath, Man Singh
Road till the parade was over, a police official said.

‘C’-Hexagon-India Gate was closed for traffic from 0900 hrs on Tuesday till the parade crossed Tilak
Marg.

For the first time as many as 10 Heads of State and Governments from ASEAN countries will be
guests of honour at the majestic Republic Day parade on January 26. They will be attending the
ASEAN Special Commemorative Summit 2018 here on January 25.
