ED attaches Rs 153 crore assets of former promoters of Universal Buildwell's

New Delhi Sep 28, (UNI) The Enforcement Directorate (ED), Gurugram Zonal Office, said today that it has attached immovable and movable properties worth Rs 153.16 crore. These assets belong to the former promoters of Universal Buildwell Private Limited, its group entities, and their key associates. The attached properties include 29.45 acres of land in Behror, Kotputli (Rajasthan), multiple units in the Universal Trade Tower in Gurugram's Sector-49, and fixed deposits worth Rs 3.16 crore.
A Prosecution Complaint (chargesheet) was filed on September 19 before the Special PMLA Court in Gurugram, naming the arrested former promoters and other key individuals as accused. The ED initiated its investigation based on more than 30 FIRs registered across Delhi-NCR against Universal Buildwell Pvt. Ltd. and its promoters Raman Puri, Vikram Puri, and Varun Puri. The FIRs alleged that the company failed to complete real estate projects on time, thereby cheating homebuyers and investors and causing them financial loss. The ED arrested the three promoters and former directors on July 22 under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). They are currently in judicial custody.
The company was subsequently taken into the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP), which led to the approval of a resolution plan for homebuyers and other financial creditors. The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) ordered that certain assets be delivered to the homebuyers, while the remaining assets were to be liquidated. Despite homebuyers waiting for over 15 years, the approved resolution plan requires them to bear additional costs to realize their investments.
