New Delhi, Oct 4 (UNI) Delhi Police has arrested a 38-year old man allegedly involved in supplying illicit firearms in the national capital to criminals, the police said on Sunday.
He was nabbed by the narcotics squad of the Delhi Police's South District with five country made hand guns 'kattas' and 8 live rounds of ammunition that included two 12 bore and six .315 cartridges.
Identified as Ashok Kumar, a native of village Bhartiya, Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, he was intercepted near the Tughlaqabad fort on MB road on the intervening night of Thursday - Friday, where as per intelligence he was supposed to deliver arms to some criminal elements.
Accordingly, a trap was laid near MB Road/Shooting Range Road T Point in the area of Police station Sangam Vihar on Thursday late night and around 0025 hours, one person came walking along MB Road from Badarpur side and began waiting for someone near T-Point of MB Road Shooting Range Road.
The police team took its position and after waiting for a while, Ashok started moving from the spot, however, the police team managed to intercept and apprehend him.
During sustained interrogation he disclosed that he was involved in supplying illegal arms and ammunition to active criminals of Delhi and NCR for the past one year.
It was on Thursday that he received the consignment of illegal arms and ammunition from another criminal in Aligarh, UP and same was to be delivered in Delhi and NCR area.
A case has been registered under appropriate sections of law in this regard, while further probe is underway in the matter to find linkages of the person, the police said.
