New Delhi, Jan 23 (UNI) The Communist party of India (Marxist) on Tuesday said it will explore the possibility to bring an impeachment motion against the Chief Justice of of India, Dipak Mishra, in the Budget session.
CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury said the left party is in touch with other opposition parties to bring an impeachment motion, saying that the crisis in the Supreme Court is not solved yet.
He said it’s the time to play the role of executive and said “we need to intervene”. The budget session of Parliament will begin on January 29.
Earlier the CPI(M) had said in its statement that “the integrity and independence of the judiciary, particularly the Supreme Court, is a vital pillar of the Constitution and non-negotiable”.
The party also said the issues will be resolved keeping in mind the principles of democratic functioning and transparency. However, the left leader on Tuesday claimed the crisis in the apex court is not over yet.
On January 12 four senior most judges, Justice J Chelameswar, Ranjan Gogoii, Madan B Lokur and Kurian Josaph held a press conference and made many complaints against the functioning of the Supreme Court administration.
They raised many issues, like allocation of important cases, including the case of the death of Justice Loya.
The CJI and four judges met twice in Supreme Court last week as part of the efforts to find a solution to resolve the crisis.
