COVID tally crosses 25 lakh mark; PM assures 3 vaccines on way

New Delhi, Aug 15 (UNI) The country's COVID-19 tally surpassed the 25 lakh mark with 65,002 fresh cases on Saturday, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured the people that three vaccines for the deadly virus were in different stages of testing.

According to the ministry, the total number of positive Novel Coronavirus cases stood at 25,26,192, including 6,68,220 active ones.
According to Mr Modi, three Corona vaccines were being developed in India and large-scale production would begin, "once we get the nod from scientists".
'Our roadmap to bring the Coronavirus vaccine to all Indians in the shortest possible time is ready… Today, three vaccines are in testing stages in India. As soon as scientists give a green signal, the country will begin large scale production," he added, while delivering his Independence speech from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the 74th Independence Day.
Former India cricketer and Uttar Pradesh Home Guard Minister Chetan Chauhan, who was detected COVID-19 positive last month, was put on ventilator support at the Medanta Hospital in Gurugram on Saturday.
The fresh cases included Belagavi SP Laxmana Nimbari, while condition of legendary playback singer S P Balasubrahmanyam, popularly called as "SPB", who had tested positive for Coronavirus a couple of days back and was admitted to a private hospital, was stable and continued to be on life support in the Intensive Care Unit.
As many as 996 more patients died in the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 49,036.
India has scaled another peak, posting the highest recoveries of Coronavirus cases in a single day, so far with 57,381 patients discharged in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 18,08,936. The country's recovery rate was at 71.61 per cent.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal appealed to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers to donate Oximeters and save lives of the people.
'My appeal to all the workers of the Aam Aadmi Party is to donate as many Oximeters as possible, and that every worker should take responsibility of his village, so that we can save the lives of people through the Oximeter," he said.
"In case of Delhi, home isolation was a measure that helped us in fighting the battle against Covid-19. For instance, if there are 10,000 cases, only 1000 are severe and taken to hospitals, the remaining get cured at home. It saves 9000 beds, this can be followed in villages," the CM added.
The national capital has at present 11,366 active cases.
Maharashtra, however remains the worst-affected state with tally of 5,72,734 cases, 1,51,865 active cases and 19,427 cases.
Tamil Nadu, where Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami announced hike in pension for freedom fighters from Rs 16,000 to Rs 17,000 as the state witnessed 127 more deaths, registered total loss of 5,641 lives, while the cumulative tally of infections mounted to 3,32,105 as 5,860 more people were tested positive with the virus. The total number of active cases stood at 54,213.
Andhra Pradesh was currently housing 2,73,085 cases with 89,907 active patients and 2,475 deaths.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced that those donating blood plasma for the treatment of COVID- 19 patients in the state, would be given Rs 5000 as encouragement for more and more such donations.
The state, on the 74th Independence Day, crossed the one lakh mark in terms of number of infected and stood at 1,01,906.
