Delhi Court upholds conviction of Ansal brothers in Uphaar tragedy related case

New Delhi, July 18 (UNI) A Delhi Court has upheld the conviction of Ansal brothers - Sushil and Gopal Ansal in tampering of evidence case related to the Uphaar cinema fire on June 13, 1997, which claimed 59 lives.
Ansal brothers were sentenced to 2 years in jail by the Supreme Court in a main fire tragedy case and later on released them taking into account their prison time with the condition that they pay Rs 30 crore fine each to be used for building a trauma centre in Delhi.
On July 20, 2002 the tampering was detected and a departmental enquiry was initiated against former court staff Dinesh Chand Sharma. He was suspended and terminated from services on June 25, 2004 and an First Information Report was registered as 207/2006 by Tilak Marg Police Station.
